What to wear to your newborn session

New mother is wearing a white dress and cradling her newborn baby who is wrapped in a blue and white blanket. New father is wearing a white t-shirt and is holding the mother. Mother and father are pressing their foreheads together.

The albums you pridefully leave on the coffee table or the prints you admire on your walls should stand the test of time. That's why it's important to prepare for your newborn session by considering what to wear.

Timeless

Consider wearing solid colours or small prints. White and cream have a timeless feel, neutrals help keep the attention on your baby, black is good for slimming and creating more moody images, and pastels work great if you want to coordinate with baby's nursery.

Avoid wearing distracting patterns, large designs, flashy logos , and words such as "big sister" on your clothing. These usually don't photograph well, draw the attention away from your precious baby and spotlight the trends of the time.

Comfort and Fit

I want to create a space where you can connect with your baby and wearing comfortable clothes will help with that.

This is probably obvious but easy to forget. Make sure your clothes are clean, ironed, and that they fit. If it's too loose or too tight, you'll be uncomfortable and you'll be spending time pulling down your shirt over your belly, or pulling up the shoulders over your cleavage, or adjusting your bra strap.

Also note that the studio will be very warm, close to 26C, to keep newborns comfortable, so dress light to avoid melting!

Change of Clothes

I don't use props or complex wraps. Baby may be swaddled and if they are not, they may not be wearing a diaper so  bring a spare change of clothes for mom, dad and any older siblings.

Now that you know what to wear, it’s time to book your newborn session!
